Creating real barcodes for QuarkXPress
QuarkXPress 2020 is Quark’s latest version of this venerable publishing application that has been constantly updated and upgraded with improvements and novelties over the past decade. Today, QuarkXPress is one of a handful of seriously powerful layout design and cross-platform publishing solutions. As all layout and design apps, however, it is not advisable to create barcodes inside the app, using its powerful drawing tools.
As there are no XTensions that allow you to create barcodes for the latest versions of QuarkXPress, it's best to use a barcode generator app like Barcode Producer that complies with the industry standards of the moment.
It's very easy to embed those industry-standard barcodes in QuarkXPress 2019 and 2020.
Step 1: Create your barcode in Barcode Producer. Save as EPS file.
Step 2: In QuarkXPress, place the EPS file by dragging it to the layout page where the barcode should be placed.
Step 3: When the preview of the EPS file has been created in QuarkXPress, drag the preview to the exact location where you want it to be printed.
Step 4: Print the layout or export it to a PDF file.
Note the following workground with regards to exporting to PDF in QuarkXPress 2019
Consider this workflow:
- Place an EPS file into a Photoshop EPS
- Import that second EPS into a QuarkXPress layout
- Export that layout to PDF
- Re-import the PDF into another QuarkXPress page
- Output that to a PDF.
In this scenario, the embedded EPS images may not output correctly when exporting the layout to PDF. The solution is to use no more than one level of embedded images when constructing pages that are to be exported to PDF.
