Working with label printers

Barcode Producer is not designed to print directly to a label printer. You can, however, save your barcode then import the image into the software that came with your printer.

Watch out: inexpensive thermal label printers don't do a good job printing graphics due to low resolution.

Instead of working with a label printer, consider using Avery label sheets. Here's an article with more information.

Can you recommend a label printer or label printing option?

It's difficult for us to suggest a good label printer because we use Macs, and nearly all label printers don't work well on a Mac. Some of our customers use industrial Zebra brand printers to create barcode tags. However, these start at at least $2000. They also don't natively support the Mac.

Some of our customers use Dymo brand label printers, an inexpensive label printer brand. These are primarily intended for printing out address labels – they are useful for that purpose, but less useful for creating barcode labels. These types of printers use direct thermal technology, like a retail store receipt. So, after some months, many tags will fade away or turn black in response to the environment. So, if you don't need your tags to last for very long, this might be worth considering.

Another option to consider is to not use Barcode Producer to produce labels, since affordable and straightforward printing options are difficult to come by. Consider using something like IntelliScanner Asset Tags. They're preprinted, each with a unique value, so you don't really have to think about producing them – just peel and stick.

Barcode Producer for Mac/PC creates perfect barcodes for retail packages, labels, books, packages, and everything else.
