How to generate one#
File → Print Barcode Report... (or the Print button in the toolbar dropdown). The dialog offers standard print options – paper size, printer selection, save as PDF. The report lays out on a single sheet:
- The barcode at production-accurate scale, with trim marks if your finishing settings include them.
- The symbology and value as a header at the top of the page.
- The recipe, in tabular form: factor, output resolution, color mode, color values for bars and background, font choice, BWR adjustment if any, custom additional text, light margin settings, every Advanced setting that affected the rendered output.
The output is a single-page document. For a multi-barcode deliverable, generate one report per barcode.
When to use one#
Three common cases:
- Client deliverables. When you’re handing a barcode to a client – a designer, a print shop, a brand team – the Barcode Report gives them the full specification on paper alongside the vector EPS. Useful as a sign-off artifact or as the “here’s what we made for you” cover sheet.
- Internal records. Keep one in your project folder for every barcode you generate. When a question comes up six months later (“what factor did we use for the ITF-14 on this product?”), the answer is in the report file rather than buried in an EPS’s machine-readable settings.
- Compliance and audit. Procurement and compliance teams sometimes want a human-readable record of the barcode’s settings independent of the artwork itself. The report serves as that record.
The EPS-and-report pairing#
Every Barcode Report carries the same settings that are stored inside the vector EPS you exported. The EPS holds them in a structured comment for machine re-importing; the report holds them in human-readable form for paper records and visual reference. Same data, two formats, two audiences.
If you have the EPS but lose the report, regenerate the report from the EPS – open the EPS in Barcode Producer, then print a fresh Barcode Report. If you have the report but lose the EPS, you can recreate the barcode by hand from the recipe; the report is human-readable and contains everything the editor needs.
