How do I make my barcode a specific size?
Barcodes don't quite work like this – essentially, you can't make barcodes an exact specific dimensional size.
Barcodes are sized based on the width of the narrowest bar, specified in millimeters. That sounds complicated, so we simplified it in Barcode Producer: you specify the size of a barcode using the Factor option, as a percentage of that symbology's "default size". Play with it and you'll probably find a size that works well. 100% is the default and recommended size.
If you're not seeing the size you want, select "Custom" at the bottom of the popup window and enter the width of the narrowest bar you'd like. A range is provided – if you step outside this range, the preview will revert to the default size and the number will appear in red.
Can I just resize the barcode how I want once I export it?
Do not compromise the integrity of your barcode by modifying it after export. But if you must go against our recommendation, save the barcode as a vector EPS from Barcode Producer, open it in Illustrator, and resize the barcode to a smaller size if you wish. However, this comes with two important notices:
- If you resize the barcode, you must make absolutely sure you do so proportionally. Do not make the barcode shorter or wider non-proportionally.
- You really shouldn't do this, and you run a serious risk that your barcode will not be scannable in the open market by forcing a smaller size. Do this entirely at your own risk.
